INSECT & DISEASE CONTROL

Insects and diseases pose two of the most serious threats to your treeís health. Insects can cause considerable damage to trees and shrubs by defoliating the plant and/or sucking out the sap, thereby weakening the plant, retarding itís growth, and sometimes killing it. Insects may also carry pathogens or provide an entry way for fungi, bacteria, or viruses. Diseases are often more damaging because they sometimes affect the water and nutrient conducting functions of the plant or cause rotting of the roots.

Proper diagnosis and treatment of these problems is often difficult and should be left to qualified arborists. The arborists at Tree Barber are thoroughly trained in the diagnosis and treatment of these problems. Although we are certified and licenses to treat these problems through spraying and trunk injection methods, we are very environmentally conscientious and treat only when absolutely necessary.

Tree Barber prescribes to a Plant Health Care concept of maintaining healthy plants through properly pruning, fertilizing, mulching, watering, etc. The less stress, the less chance of insect or disease damage.

CABLING AND BRACING OF TREES

The art of cabling and bracing of trees has been a standard practice in arboriculture since the early 1900ís. Although the methods, tools and techniques have become much more sophisticated today, the basis premise is still the same...to prevent valuable trees that have developed weak or dangerous limbs from breaking and posing a potential threat to property and people and also resulting in irreparable damage to the tree.

Many trees and large shrubs have developed weakly attached limbs or weak crotches due to improper or lack of pruning in the past. Multi-stemmed trees are susceptible to breaking under the stress of wind or the weight of accumulated rain and are certainly candidates for cabling. Large overweight shrubs or shallow-rooted trees may be subject to uprooting and can be secured with ground anchors or guy wires.

Tree Barberís expert arborists have a vast knowledge of the various techniques of cabling and experience in their installations. We can determine when cabling would be practical and what method should be used to ensure safe, valuable assets to your property.... Your Trees

PRUNING

Pruning is probably the most important practice to ensure strong, healthy and attractive plants. However, if improperly performed it could be the most devastating. Pruning or trimming should be done regularly to maintain safety and the health and natural attractiveness of your trees and shrubs, but always done sparingly and always by a qualified, certified arborist.

Over pruning is extremely harmful and stressful because without a sufficient number of leaves, a tree cannot gather and process enough sunlight to survive. The process of photosynthesis, the food producing function of the leaves would be compromised. Our certified arborists can determine what type of pruning is necessary to maintain or improve the healthy appearance and safety of your trees and shrubs, what techniques to use and more importantly, what the proper timing should be

FERTILIZING

Tree and shrub fertilization is an essential component of the Plant Health Care regime which we recommend. Fertilizing improves plant vigor and insect and disease resistance white fostering growth. In the urban environment, trees often suffer from some nutrient deficiency due to competition with turf and other plants.

They do not benefit from the natural process of nutrient replenishment through decomposition of organic matter that occurs in the forests. Poor leaf color and slow growth are often systems of nutrient deficiencies and the weakened plant may become more susceptible to insect and disease damage.

The certified arborists on our staff are well trained in detecting impending problems and recommending the optimum time, method and type of fertilizers needed for each individual plants. This is an essential aspects of preventive tree care.
